APMP Foundation face-to-face - 16 June - London
APMP Foundation course and exam
APMP Foundation is the first step on the path to professional certification for specialists in bid and proposal management. It’s widely viewed as an essential addition to your CV by many in the industry.
We’re officially ranked as APMP’s number one Approved Training Organisation worldwide, with an unparalleled pass rate. We receive outstanding feedback on our courses – which draw on our extensive real-world experience of helping teams to win bids and to build better proposal capabilities. So, join us to explore the latest best practice and industry insights – and to gain practical new ideas!
1. Course logistics
The course will take place at DeVere Venues’ West One training centre at 9-10 Portland Place, London W1B 1PR. The venue is a short walk from Oxford Circus tube. Great Portland Street and Bond Street tubes are also fairly close by.
Coffee will be available from 08:30, and we’ll start the course at 08:45 prompt. If you’re delayed for any reason on the morning, please text Jon Williams on +44 (0)781 333 2294 (as he may not be able to answer his phone while setting up for the day).
We’ll finish presenting the course material no later than 16:15, giving you a short break before you sit the exam. We’ll then mark your papers - and let you know your result before you leave at the end of the afternoon. The event will finish by 18:00. Please don’t book travel that requires you to leave the venue earlier than 18:00 as we can't cut the exam or marking short!
We will provide refreshments, including lunch, during the day. Casual clothing is just fine.
2. APMP membership number and proof of ID
You’ll need to provide us with your APMP membership number when you sit the exam. If you’re not already a member, go to APMP’s website and sign up via the 'Regular/Individual Membership' option (which costs $155 for a year, not included in your course fee). Please be sure to bring your membership number with you on the day!
The exam board requires us to check photographic ID for candidates before you sit the exam. Please bring something suitable along – driving licence, work identity badge etc.
3. Pre-course reading
Although it’s not mandatory, we recommend that you read through as much as you can of APMP’s “Foundation Study Guide” before the day. This will help you to familiarise yourself with some of APMP’s terminology. There’s no need whatsoever to learn it all by heart! A few particular areas you might want to focus on are the chapters on: Introduction to the Business Development Lifecycle, Strategy and Win Themes, Value Propositions, Gate Decisions, Review Management, Scheduling and Content Plans.
The guide is available to APMP members via this link, using the same email address and password that you’ll have set up for the main APMP website. Go to the foot of the page, where it says 'Switch View', and click on 'Study Guide' to make sure you only see the right sections of APMP’s Body of Knowledge.
Don’t worry about trying to print off the guide: we’ll provide you with printed copies on the day of this book and of APMP’s glossary.
4. Exam structure and background
The assessment comprises a multiple-choice examination of 75 questions in one hour. The pass mark is 42 and you’ll be told your result on the day before you leave. The exam is paper-based (i.e. not online: there’s no need to bring your laptop).
The exam is ‘open book’, so you may consult any materials that you find useful – including the course handouts, study guide and APMP glossary. If you want to know more about the certification scheme more generally, have a look at the information on the APMP website.
5. Special requirements
If you have any special requirements of which we should be aware (e.g. dietary requirements, access needs or need for handouts in large print format), please let us know in good time. We will then do whatever we can to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that you gain the maximum enjoyment and benefit from the session.
6. Cancellation policy
We have to order materials and confirm numbers to the venue well in advance. We appreciate the pressures of life in bids and proposals, but we're sure you appreciate that we can't end up being left out-of-pocket for costs we can't recover. At any time, you can nominate a colleague to take your place, at no cost. Otherwise, the cancellation policy is as follows:
- You can cancel your place at no cost up to 7 days in advance; you’ll receive a full refund.
- If you cancel 7 or fewer days before the event, or don’t turn up on the day, you won’t receive a refund.
