Learning from global roles:

Gaby has led UK and European bidding teams and coordinated regional teams on a global scale. Her tips include:

  1. Don't underestimate the importance of cultural understanding
  2. Attune to the people you're working with (are you speaking the same language?)
  3. Understand local relationships

Working in different cultures and locations:

Gaby highlights the significance of understanding different cultural backgrounds and how they impact client interactions. She highlights the importance of:

  1. Understanding the technology people are using
  2. Spending time forging internal relationships
  3. Being mindful of different timezones



Tips on moving into a global role:

Gaby recommends asking lots of questions and approaching colleagues with humility. Understanding the local environment, regulations, and what matters in each country is crucial. Gaby says the most important things are:

  1. Ask lots of questions
  2. Be humble
  3. Ask what really matters?
  4. How they relate to their clients?
  5. How local clients use your products and services

Running international bid teams:

Gaby has had success from focusing on the following:

  1. Organise bid teams like sales teams (align by sector, value, services, etc)
  2. Remain strategic
  3. Always test if the RFP/ITT can be avoided
  4. Run the team like a sales team – focus meetings on what do we need to do to win?
  5. Understand what tools you have and you need

Bringing marketing skills into bidding:

Gaby emphasises the importance of storytelling and key messages in bidding. She highlights the importance of bringing marketing creativity into the process, even when responding to bids in an Excel spreadsheet. Her key takeaways include:

  1. Defining the key messages
  2. Knowing what the client thinks about us
  3. Being creative!
  4. Making the visual and emotional connection

Importance of skills development:

Training is one of Gaby's passions. She's conducted workshops and training sessions on various topics, including presentation and pitching skills. It is crucial to ensure all involved in winning work are trained in the skills required to succeed.
